MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – Around Br1 billion is planned to be allocated for the repair of local roads in Brest Oblast in 2026-2030, Deputy Director General of the Brestobldorstroi road construction company Sergei Demko said in
a new episode of BelTA’s project The Nation Speaks.
Sergei Demko explained that the road network in Brest Oblast is divided into two categories: national roads are managed by the Brestavtodor company, while local roads are maintained by Brestobldorstroi. “The national road network spans 2,454.1km, compared to 8,487.6km of local roads,” the company’s deputy director general pointed out. “Of this nearly 8,500km, only just over 5,000km have a hard asphalt concrete surface, which is slightly under 60%. Consequently, 40% are dirt, gravel, or cobblestone roads. As for their condition, about 80% of the roads have already outlived their design life. However, according to inspections, only 31% of our roads are currently in need of repair.”
Reviewing the results of 2025, the final year of the previous stage of the Roads of Belarus state program, it was noted that Brestobldorstroi had been set a target to repair 302km of roads. “In fact, works were completed on 425.4km, meaning we exceeded the plan. Just over Br166 million (nearly Br167 million) was allocated and utilized for these purposes,” Sergei Demko said.
He also emphasized that funding for the Roads of Belarus program increases significantly with each subsequent stage. “Funding for local roads in Brest Oblast between 2021 and 2025 was nearly half of what is planned for the 2026–2030 phase. For the new period, around Br1 billion is set to be allocated for the local road network, with a target to repair just over 2,200km,” he said.
