MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) - The demand for student work teams in Belarus is growing, Vladimir Pavlovsky, a member of the Standing Committee on Healthcare, Physical Education, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM Youth Union, said in a new episode of BelTA’s project The Nation Speaks.
Around 20,000 people had already worked in student teams by the beginning of July, Vladimir Pavlovsky said. “Based on the figures from 2025, the third work semester, we can see that demand among young people is growing every year. This work semester brings many innovations. Through the smart ticket (a BRSM member plastic card with a unique QR code) and the platform, a young person can fill out a profile, indicate their preferences, where they want to work during this period, and at the same time view the list of employers who can accept them as a student team member,” he said.
Information campaigns are also conducted on social media. “We are actively running an information campaign to ensure young people know about this great opportunity, not just to earn their first money, but also to gain experience working in a team. I am skeptical about the claim that young people only sit on their smartphones. Young people still need socialization, communication, and a sense of collectivism, which is precisely what they gain in a student team, along with employment experience and the feeling of having comrades by their side. A student team is not just a group of working young people - it has a commander, a commissar, ideological content, and the commissar’s work in organizing educational activities. We are talking about both patriotic education and a kind of ideological character-building,” the first secretary said.
In 2026, BRSM student work teams are named after Heroes of the Soviet Union. “This creative idea was initiated by the young people themselves: newly formed teams bear the names of female heroes and partisans who made a tremendous contribution during the Great Patriotic War, so that today we have the wonderful opportunity to work under a peaceful sky,” he emphasized.
As for innovations and new student teams, a new team and a new direction were launched at the end of 2025 - financial teams working in banks and performing more analytical tasks. “When we think of a student team, we usually imagine production lines and factory work. But we see that there is demand in the banking sector for fresh perspectives and young ideas on various issues related to banking. We will continue to develop this direction in the future. There is already interest from partners who wish to expand in this area. We also have innovations in creating teams for engineering specialties, including design bureaus, where young people are directly involved in design work at enterprises,” the first secretary said.
