Basic tasks of the university
Satisfaction of needs of a person in intellectual, cultural, physical and moral development by means of reception of higher and postgraduate education on the basis of unbreakable unity of educational process and scientific researches;
Satisfaction of needs of a society in the qualified experts with a higher education which combine deep professional knowledge with a high culture and a civil activity by means of realization of educational programs on higher, secondary, postgraduate, additional and other kinds of education in the field of naturalists, humanitarian and technical sciences;
Organization and carrying out fundamental, research and applied scientific researches directed on economic, scientific and social problems decision, assistance to the taking test0273 of researches results on a practice, carrying out international, republic, regional scientific, scientific - practical conferences, symposiums, examinations;
Assistance to distribution of scientific knowledge among population, acceptance of necessary measures for maintenance and strengthening of university authority as a centre of science, culture and education in the region and city;
Realization of activity directed on admission of the university in the world scientific and educational sphere, development of international relations and strengthening its authority;

Additional information
The educational institution "A.S.Pushkin Brest State University" exists as a higher educational institution of university type since 1995 when A.S.Pushkin Brest State Pedagogical Institute has become the university. The university is placed in three buildings of general area 53323 square m (educational area is 21673 square m), has three conducts, a sport complex, a library (more than 669000 volumes), biological and geological museums, a centre of Vladimir Kolesnik, an agro biological station, sports improving camp and bases for ground practice.
At the end of 2004 professorial-magisterial staff consisted of 648 persons. There are 17 doctors, 238 candidates of sciences, 23 professors, 194 associate lecturers among educational specialists.
There are 11 faculties at the university at which study 8874 students: 5104 students study internal (including 1874 students on the paid basis) and 3770 students study in absentia (including 2644 students on the paid basis).
Every year more than 1000 school-leavers become students of the university. Teachers use modern educational technologies at lectures and practical lessons.
There is an Institute of Personnel Training and Retraining of Leading Employees and Specialists at the university.
The A.S.Pushkin Brest State University supports intensive cooperation with a number of foreign higher educational institutions: Higher Pedagogical Institution in Weingarten (Germany), Higher Pedagogical Seminary (Switzerland), Maria Kjuri-Sklodovska Lublin University (Poland), Podljasskaja Academy in Sedlece (Poland), Warminsko-Mazurskiy University in Olsztyn (Poland), Shaulyask University (Lithuania), Volynsk State University of Lesya Ukrainka (the Ukraine), K.V.Rossinskiy Institute of International Law, Economy, Humanities and Management (Russia). The university concluded an Agreement of Cooperation with Institute of State and Right of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus.
The Brest State University is chosen as a responsible executor of 13 themes, which are included to the plan of the most important since-researching efforts in the Republic of Belarus for 2001-2005.
At the university works the publishing department. The newspaper "Berasceyski University", scientific-theoretical magazine "Vestnik of the Brest University" are published here.
In 1981 a Chamber Chorus of Teachers and Employees is founded at the university. Since 1983 a tourist club "Berestye" works.
The rector of the university is a Doctor of History, Professor Mechislav Edvardovich Chesnovskiy.
