Sport Life of the Brest Land

46 sports are being cultivated in the Brest region, and 28 of them are included in the program of the Olympic Games.
Track and field athletics, football, volleyball, field hockey, and badminton are the most widespread with the population. Judo, shooting, handball, acrobatics, boxing, and baseball are popular as well. These are the priority sports in the Brest region, and the best results have been achieved in them at national and international competitions.
27 thousand children and teenagers attend 68 sport training institutions, including 20 specialised Olympic reserve children and youth schools (“SDUShOR”), 36 sport children and youth schools (“DUSSh”), 12 children and youth clubs (DUKFP).
754 trainers work with young sportsmen. 458 of them work on the staff.
The most promising pupils of the sport schools of the region are enrolled in the regional specialised Olympic reserve school and its branches in Baranovichi and Kobrin.
The training of the leading sportsmen of the region takes place in the sport training institutions and sections of the physical culture and sport society “Dynamo”, the trade unions sport club, and the physical training and sport centre of the Ministry of Education.
The best sportsmen of the region in 6 sports (field and track athletics, shooting, fencing, boar-racing, heavy athletics, unarmed self-defence) are enrolled in the regional school of higher sport mastery. Over 2 last years school pupils have won 38 medals of different value in official international competitions.
95 sportsmen of the region participate in national teams of the Republic of Belarus; about 200 are included in the list of trainees and reserve sportsmen of the national teams.
The sport material basis of the region improved in the past Olympic cycle. The field and track athletics core of the state sport complex “Brestskiy”, specialised halls for heavy athletics and wrestling, a sport palace for ice hockey and figure skating, and a game complex in Baranovichi have been built; the reconstruction of the archery range and the rowing channel is going on.
